The Time-Out House provides a safe, secure environment, where young people may choose to be referred, by medical or associated services. The House provides accommodation for up to 48 hours, so the young person can explore options for longer-term treatment and surroundings.

When a young person chooses to use the service, contact is made with the Co-ordinator, who picks up and transports the client to the house. House rules are explained upon arrival and introductions made to the two be-frienders who will be looking after them. Where possible, both a male and female be-friender, are assigned to each client.

Every effort has been made to provide clients with a wide range of activities to occupy their time whilst at the house, including videos, music, video games, puzzle, drawing, painting. However if a client prefers simply to sleep, they are free to do so. Meals are provided whilst staying at the House and clients are encouraged to take part in the preparation, cooking and washing-up.

Some of the helpful direction available when leaving the House, is introductions to other people, who belong to clubs, services and organisations, with whom they car connect and build relationships, which can bridge the gap in rebuilding their self-esteem and feelings of self-worth.
